By posting this recipe I am entering a recipe contest sponsored by the Wild Blueberry Association of North America and I am eligible to win prizes associated with the contest. I was not compensated for my time.
Smoothies are my jam. Like everybody, I’m short on time and short on energy, so some mornings if it wasn’t for throwing a bunch of healthy (and tasty) stuff in my Vitamix, I quite possibly would skip breakfast (which is like dietitian rule #1 to not break). But sometimes when I have a little more time, I enjoy getting creative with my smoothies so I have another tried and true recipe on the mornings I’m an extra scattered hot mess. Ya feel me?
I love using Wild Blueberries in my smoothies because they actually have a more intense flavor (a unique mix of tart and sweet!) than regular blueberries. Since 99% of of the Wild Blueberry crop is frozen, they’re the perfect freezer staple to have on hand! I’m all about more frozen fruit in smoothies because adding ice to smoothies just doesn’t do it for me.
And get this- Wild Blueberries have TWICE the amount of antioxidant capacity of larger cultivated blueberries…talk about a powerful nutrition win! The abundance of antioxidants got me thinking about other yummy antioxidant-containing ingredients and I immediately thought of chai tea!
Chai’s has subtle hints of ginger, cardamom and peppercorn which is pretty fantastic with Wild Blueberry’s tartness and sweetness! This smoothie also has some heart-healthy avocado and half a banana to provide some creaminess and extra nutrition! I added an extra pinch of cinnamon for a little more spice and this smoothie is now one of my go-to favorites for breakfast or a snack!
KISS Tip*: If you don’t have chai tea concentrate handy OR want a version with less sugar, steep 2 chai tea bags in 1/2 cup hot water.
