Broiled Grapefruit Prepared Two Ways

Prep Time10 minutes
Cook Time5 minutes
Total Time15 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 large grapefruits
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp light brown or turbinado sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

Ramekin

  • Preheat oven to broil (if your oven gives you a temperature option, choose 500°).
  • While the broiler is preheating, slice grapefruits in half and use a paring or other sharp knife to trim away all the rind/pith (all the thick white stringy stuff). Once most the rind/pith is gone, cut fruit into small bite size pieces.
  • Place grapefruit pieces in 2 medium or 4 small ramekins.
  • Mix together sugar and spices and sprinkle evenly on top of grapefruit.
  • Place in oven, about 3 inches under the broiler, and cook for about 5 minutes. Keep an eye for any bubbling over or charring- you want a golden brown, not a burnt grapefruit.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Whole Grapefruit

  • Place in oven, about 3 inches under the broiler, and cook for about 5 minutes. Keep an eye for any bubbling over or charring- you want a golden brown, not a burnt grapefruit.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!
