2017 Fruits of the Spirit Series: Love and Joy

I had to change the intro to this post because I wrote it several days ago thinking I’d post it on on December 1st… but then I got hit with a GI bug that had unspeakable effects. Ahh! I thought surely I would post this yesterday for the first day of Advent, but I was still recovering. Thank goodness I’m finally tolerating solid food again and I’m ready to talk about the good stuff.

This is truly my favorite time of the year and this is my favorite series on the KISS in the Kitchen blog. I started the Fruits of the Spirit series last year when I was self-admittedly having a particularly difficult holiday season and made an intentional effort to live in abundance, focus on the good stuff and count my blessings. Because let’s be honest- even in the most challenging of seasons, there are still things to be grateful for. I’m incredibly grateful to be in a much different season this December, but I still want to maintain the series and even more importantly- an attitude of gratitude!

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” -Galatians 5:22-23

First up on our list is love and joy! I’ll take a double helping of both, please ;). Below you will find recipes that embody love and the heart; either adorable heart-shaped cutouts OR recipes that are good for your (and your family’s) ticker! Scroll down a bit further for the joy recipes!

Maple Pistachio Cookie Cake from Shaw’s Simple Swaps
Frosted Thumbprint Cookies from Hungry Hobby
Blackened Salmon Tacos with Pineapple Salsa from Lively Table
Mediterranean Sheet Pan Salmon from Small Bites Nutrition

“Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.” -Luke 2:10

When thinking of joy, I think of brightness, cheer and beautiful colors. These recipes are some of the prettiest recipes from my dietitian colleagues that are sure to bring some joy to your kitchen and to the people eating them!

Easy Pots de Creme (Vegan) from Food, Pleasure & Health
Wild Blueberry Ricotta Cakes from Amy Gorin Nutrition

I want to extend a big thank you to all the wonderful dietitians who were once again eager to contribute to this very meaningful series! And thank you to all those who swing by KISS in the Kitchen on the regular, or if you’re a first-timer, welcome! I hope you all find inspiration, hope and deliciousness in this series!
